Representative Teresa Fedor
Ohio 47th House District

About Your Representative

Representative Teresa Fedor is serving her second term in the Ohio House of Representatives representing the 47th House District.  She spent 18 years in the classroom before pursuing public service.  She was elected to the Senate in 2002, and prior to that, the citizens of Toledo elected her to serve the 52nd district of the Ohio House of Representatives in 2000. A proud veteran, she served in the United States Air Force and Ohio Air National Guard, before receiving a B.S. in Education from the University of Toledo.

Protecting our most vulnerable young Ohioans is a driving force for her.  Since joining the General Assembly, Representative Fedor has worked to improve opportunities for all citizens, especially for our children.  In 2009, the Governor signed her human trafficking legislation into law, which created an enhancement in the criminal code for human trafficking and created a task force to study the problem in Ohio.  In 2010, the Governor signed into law landmark legislation that made human trafficking a stand-along, second-degree felony.

Representative Fedor has introduced legislation that will curtail the growing problem of cyberbullying of school children; will honor literacy and educational attainment among children by celebrating a “Dia de Los Ninos”; will create health standards in Ohio’s schools; and will ensure that military children are given the same educational opportunities as other children.

Each year her “Campaign for Healthy Kids and Communities” takes her from Toledo to Columbus on her “Bike to the Capitol.” The 'Bike to the Capitol' has a three-fold purpose: promote bicycle-friendly community initiatives, advocate for Senate Bill 174 – the Safer Passing legislation, and support quality health and physical education in our public schools.  During her first tour in 2007, she collected and delivered 4,000 petitions to First Lady Francis Strickland in support of physical education standards and a physical education coordinator position at the Ohio Department of Education.

Throughout her legislative career, Teresa Fedor has championed responsive and responsible government.  In the recent past, she has helped to unveil the Bureau of Workers Compensation coin scandal, made certain that Ohio’s voting machines leave a paper tail, and worked collaboratively with the majority and the governor during the last several budgets.

Representative Fedor currently serves on the State Government and Elections Committee, the Education Committee, and the Veterans Affairs Committee.  She serves as the Ranking Member on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.  She is also the Policy Chair of the Ohio House Democratic Women’s Caucus.

Representative Fedor has been recognized for her work as legislator. Here are just a few awards:  Legislator of the Year Awards from: Vietnam Veterans of America-Buckeye Chapter, the Second Harvest Food Banks, the Ohio Environmental Council, the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio State Association of Veterans Service Commissioners. She was recently selected as a 2010 Henry Toll Fellow for State Government Officials.

Representative Fedor sits on the Trafficking in Persons Study Commission, Ohio Arts Commission, Military Activation Task Force, State Council on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, Committee to Study Publicly-Funded Childcare, and the National Statuary Collection Study Committee.
